Professor Michael Conlon has joined the judging panel for the Business Energy Achievement Awards 2026. Professor Emeritus at Technological University Dublin, he recently retired as Head of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, bringing to the panel a career built on power systems analysis and control applications, power systems economics, and the integration of renewable energy in electricity networks.
His research profile spans some of the most pressing technical challenges in Ireland's energy transition. Professor Conlon has led and partnered on a number of significant research projects at TU Dublin, including the EU FP-7 funded PV-Crops project, and is a member of the Dublin Energy Lab, a research group focused on advancing sustainable energy solutions across the Irish grid. He also serves on the EirGrid Shaping Our Electricity Future Advisory Council, contributing to the strategic planning of Ireland's electricity network as it accommodates an increasing share of renewable generation.
His international experience adds further depth to his panel contribution. Prior to his tenure at TU Dublin, Professor Conlon served as Head of Energy Forecasting and Reliability with the Victorian Energy Networks Corporation in Melbourne, Australia, where he gained practical experience in large-scale network management and energy reliability at a systems level.
That combination of applied network expertise, academic leadership, and active advisory engagement gives Professor Conlon a well-rounded perspective on the energy challenges and opportunities facing organisations competing at the awards.
