Emmet Lagan has joined the judging panel for the Business Energy Achievement Awards 2026. Director at Lagan Energy Engineering, he brings over twenty years of experience in the power and energy sector to his panel role, fifteen of which have been spent working within large-scale renewable energy generation. That depth of sector-specific experience gives him a precise and well-calibrated understanding of what genuine energy achievement looks like across Ireland's most complex and capital-intensive energy environments.
At Lagan Energy Engineering, Lagan leads on new technologies as Technical Director, with a focus on identifying and introducing innovations that can reshape how the renewables and data centre sectors approach energy performance and carbon reduction. His work in this area has placed him at the forefront of emerging technology adoption in Ireland, particularly around hydrogen and large-scale battery energy storage systems, two of the most strategically significant technologies in the country's long-term energy transition. That exposure to the cutting edge of energy innovation means he is well positioned to assess entries that push the boundaries of what is currently achievable in the sector.
Prior to his current role, Lagan spent ten years at SSE Renewables, where he worked across asset management and electrical engineering. That tenure gave him hands-on experience of managing large renewable energy assets at operational scale, navigating the technical, regulatory, and commercial demands of maintaining high-performance generation infrastructure over the long term. The asset management perspective in particular sharpens his ability to assess the sustainability and replicability of the energy achievements presented in competing entries.
His background also includes successful merger and acquisition experience at business leadership level, a dimension that broadens his perspective beyond technical performance to encompass the commercial and organisational factors that underpin durable energy innovation.
His appointment brings technical depth, commercial acumen, and a forward-looking perspective on emerging energy technologies to the Business Energy Achievement Awards judging panel.
