Orsted is offloading its entire European onshore wind portfolio, and Ireland is at the centre of the action. With 21 of the 27 operational windfarms on the block located across the Irish countryside, this sale represents a major reshaping of Ireland’s renewables landscape. The full 800MW portfolio, spread across four countries, could fetch up to €2bn.

This strategic pivot from the Danish energy giant—whose European onshore HQ is in Cork, signals a shift in focus, even as Ireland races toward its target of 80% renewable energy by 2030. With a deep pipeline of solar and offshore wind still in development, Orsted isn’t pulling out; it’s repositioning.

For energy leaders, this raises key questions about future investment patterns, cross-border consolidation, and the evolving value of mature wind assets.
