CycleØ and Gas Networks Ireland sign deal to unlock biomethane growth
CycleØ is investing €100 million to build four agri-based biomethane plants in Ireland, partnering with Gas Networks Ireland to connect them directly to the national gas grid. The deal supports Ireland’s target of producing 5.7 TWh of biomethane by 2030, with the new facilities expected to generate 160 GWh annually—enough to heat 12,000 homes. Beyond boosting supply, the agreement aims to streamline regulatory hurdles and standardise grid connection processes. This move signals rising momentum for biomethane as a scalable decarbonisation route, offering both emissions cuts and energy security benefits in a tightening regulatory landscape.
