Cork overtook Kerry as Ireland’s top wind energy producer in July, generating 85GWh and contributing to the nation’s third-highest monthly wind output on record at 786GWh. Wind supplied nearly a quarter of Ireland’s electricity, cutting costs on high-wind days to €84.80/MWh compared with €111.55/MWh when reliant on fossil fuels. A €3.5bn grid upgrade in the National Development Plan aims to unlock even more renewable capacity and reduce dependence on imported gas.
