Global energy services company Weatherford International has announced plans to relocate its parent company headquarters from Ireland to Texas, in a move designed to align its corporate structure with its operational footprint, expand its US shareholder base, and improve its ability to respond to developments in tax law. The proposed redomiciliation is subject to shareholder and other approvals and is expected to complete in the third quarter of 2026.
Weatherford Today reported that the company's global operational headquarters has been based in Houston for over 20 years, and that the relocation is not expected to affect its global footprint, customer commitments, or ongoing operations in other regions.
Girish Saligram, chief executive officer of Weatherford International, said the move would bring greater alignment between the company's operating profile and structure.
Weatherford International provides equipment and services used in the drilling, evaluation, completion, production, and intervention of oil and natural gas wells. The company operates across major energy markets globally and is listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
The decision to redomicile from Ireland to Texas reflects a broader trend among energy sector multinationals reassessing their legal domicile structures in response to shifting US tax policy and the current political environment around domestic corporate registrations. Several large energy firms have undertaken similar moves in recent years, driven by pressure to align legal and operational headquarters and to broaden their appeal to US institutional investors.
Ireland has served as a holding company domicile for numerous multinational corporations over recent decades, primarily due to its favourable corporate tax environment and access to European markets.
