German energy technology company Siemens Energy has announced that it and its wind turbine subsidiary Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will be unified under a single new independent brand, Omterra, with the phased transition scheduled to begin later in 2026, as reported by Reuters.
The rebrand follows Siemens Energy's spin-off from Siemens AG in 2020 under a time-limited licence agreement governing the use of the Siemens name. With that agreement approaching its end, the company has chosen to establish a fully independent brand with global appeal, rather than renew the licence.
The new Omterra brand has been selected to provide a distinctive global identity while reflecting the company's worldwide presence, engineering expertise and commitment to supporting reliable and sustainable energy systems. By creating its own standalone brand, the company aims to reinforce its position as a leading global energy technology provider independent of its former parent.
Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy, said: "Since our spin-off, it has been clear that the licensed Siemens Energy brand would be available to us for a limited period. Today, our company is well positioned strategically, operationally and financially. We have earned the trust of our customers and the capital markets, improved our profitability, and have ambitious growth plans for the years ahead. Against this backdrop and given that the current brand agreement is time-limited, now is the right time to begin the transition to our own independent brand. Our founder's name opened doors and supported us on our path to independence. This legacy remains both an inspiration and a commitment for us as we actively help shape the energy world of tomorrow."
The rebranding process is scheduled to begin later in 2026 and will be implemented in stages, with no changes expected to the company's strategic direction, customer relationships or operations during or after the transition.
Siemens Energy is a major supplier of energy equipment and services, including industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators and compression technologies used in natural gas, LNG and other energy infrastructure applications. Siemens Gamesa has installed more than 150GW of wind capacity globally across onshore and offshore projects over more than 40 years of operations.
Despite the branding change, the company emphasised that its business strategy, technology roadmap, customer relationships and partnerships will remain unchanged, with the transition to Omterra designed to ensure continuity for customers, employees, suppliers and business partners.
