Germany-based Siemens Energy has agreed to acquire Northern Ireland engineering specialist Camlin Group, strengthening its capabilities in grid monitoring, analytics and digital infrastructure at a time of accelerating investment in electricity networks and renewable energy integration. Camlin, headquartered in Lisburn, employs around 650 people and develops technologies supporting energy and rail systems.

Insider Media reported that the acquisition will expand Siemens Energy’s digital grid portfolio, with the transaction expected to complete before the end of 2026 subject to regulatory approvals. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Camlin Group generates more than £90m (€121m) in annual revenue and operates across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and Asia. Founded by engineers in Northern Ireland in 2010, the business has built capabilities in grid monitoring, analytics and asset digitalisation technologies increasingly used to modernise electricity systems.

The acquisition comes as electricity grids face mounting pressure from ageing infrastructure, rising electrification and the rapid expansion of renewable energy generation. Utilities are increasingly investing in digital technologies that enable predictive maintenance, real-time monitoring and faster fault detection to improve resilience and operational performance.

Tim Holt, member of the executive board of Siemens Energy, said: “Grid expansion and digitalisation are becoming decisive factors for energy security, economic growth and the energy transition.”

He added: “Together, we can help customers move from reactive maintenance to data-driven, condition-based operation.”

Peter Cunningham, chief executive of Camlin Group, said Siemens Energy’s scale and global reach would help the company “move faster and deliver greater impact across our markets”.

The transaction strengthens Siemens Energy’s position in digital grid infrastructure as utilities increase spending on technologies supporting grid stability and renewable integration.
