Plans for a €3 billion data centre campus in County Kildare have been updated to include a greater share of clean energy in a bid to win local approval. Developer Herbata Ltd now commits to sourcing 50% of its power through renewable PPAs, with the remaining half from a gas-fired plant set to transition to hydrogen. Biomethane processing is also planned on-site.

Originally projected to emit 28 million tons of carbon, the campus is now expected to generate just 4.5 million tons over its lifetime, following discussions with Kildare County Council. If approved, the six-building, 180MW facility would mark a major shift in Ireland’s data infrastructure strategy—albeit one still wrestling with the energy footprint of digital growth.
