Limerick-based H&MV Engineering has opened its North American headquarters in Dallas, targeting 1,000 new US jobs over five years as it expands high-voltage power infrastructure capacity to meet surging American demand from data centres, artificial intelligence and energy projects.

H&MV Engineering is a Limerick, Ireland-headquartered high-voltage electrical engineering and construction company with more than 24 gigawatts of projects in design and construction globally, targeting $3.5 billion in annual revenue within five years.

Ken Gilmartin, executive vice president for H&MV Engineering in the US, said: "Dallas is the right base for the next stage of our U.S. growth. It puts us close to customers and major growth markets, with access to a deep pool of engineering and construction talent. We're building the team and capabilities here to deliver complex power infrastructure at scale across the U.S."

H&MV's timing tracks the scale of the problem it is positioning to solve. ERCOT, which manages roughly 90% of Texas's grid, has an interconnection queue of more than 233 gigawatts of large-load requests, up 269% year-on-year, driven overwhelmingly by data centre buildout.

That queue far outstrips actual delivery: only around 23 gigawatts of new generation capacity was synchronised to the grid between 2024 and late 2025, meaning the physical infrastructure to connect approved loads, substations, transformers and high-voltage transmission, is now as much a bottleneck as generation itself.

For a firm specialising in high-voltage engineering and construction rather than generation, that gap is the addressable opportunity: connecting projects to the grid, not building power plants, is where near-term demand for specialist capacity is concentrated.

For the sector, an Irish engineering firm choosing Dallas as its North American base, rather than a traditional US hub, signals that Texas's grid connection backlog is now significant enough to draw specialist international capacity directly to the point of demand.
