CrowdHouse Energy has secured six-figure debt investment from NPIF II - NEL Debt Finance, funding that matters for the sector because it lets a commercial solar installer bring panel fabrication in-house rather than depend on external suppliers, shortening lead times as UK demand for rooftop and canopy solar accelerates.

CrowdHouse Energy is a Newcastle-based commercial solar technology provider, designing, installing and maintaining rooftop photovoltaic and parking canopy solar systems.

NEL Fund Managers manages NPIF II - NEL Debt Finance, part of the £660 million Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II, offering loans of £25,000 to £2 million and equity investment up to £5 million to businesses across the North of England.

CEO Richard Blackwell said: "NEL's investment has been pivotal for CrowdHouse Energy. Their support has been outstanding, providing clear guidance, structure, and an outside perspective that has helped us make better decisions as we scale." Jane Siddle of NEL said CHE plays an instrumental role in driving the North East towards a sustainable, net zero future. Sarah Newbould of the British Business Bank said the fund supports businesses aligned with the Government's Industrial Strategy, creating highly-skilled jobs and playing a vital role in the UK's transition to a net zero economy.

CrowdHouse's in-house fabrication move addresses a structural weakness in its own market: the UK's rooftop solar supply chain is almost entirely import-dependent, with imports accounting for over 95% of domestic module consumption, leaving installers exposed to shipping delays and overseas price swings.

That exposure matters more as demand accelerates: UK commercial rooftop solar is forecast to grow around 20% this year alone, meaning installers who control more of their own supply chain can commit to faster lead times than competitors still reliant on imported inventory.

For the sector, a small regional installer using public investment to reduce import dependency signals that supply chain resilience, not just installation capacity, is becoming a genuine competitive differentiator in UK commercial solar.
