Professor Brian Norton PhD DSc has been appointed Judging Coordinator for the Business Energy Achievement Awards 2026. Emeritus Professor of Solar Energy Applications at TU Dublin, President of the European Sustainable Energy Innovation Alliance, and Vice-President of the European Academies Science Advisory Council, Professor Norton is one of Europe's most distinguished figures in energy research and sustainable technology.

His research focuses on the applications of solar energy in the built environment, with innovations spanning photovoltaics, glazing, daylighting devices, and solar water and air-heating systems. With over 15,000 citations and an h-index of 64, his academic output has shaped energy research internationally. He has supervised sixty doctorates and holds visiting professorships at several universities across the globe.

Professor Norton's honours reflect the breadth of his contribution to the field. They include an Honorary Doctorate from the Université de Technologie de Troyes, Fellowship of the Irish Academy of Engineering, the CIBSE Napier Shaw Medal, the Energy Institute's Roscoe Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Solaris Conference series. He is also a co-editor of the American Association of Publishers PROSE Award-winning publication "Comprehensive Renewable Energy."

His career has encompassed roles as Head of Energy Research at Tyndall National Institute, Research Professor at University College Cork, and Principal Investigator in MaREI, the Irish national research centre for Energy and Climate. He served as President of DIT for sixteen years.
