Barclays has confirmed its support for the UK Infinity Fusion Consortium, a private sector-led group working to deliver a commercial fusion power plant in the UK. No financial consideration or investment figure was disclosed; this concerns a partnership role rather than a transaction.

Barclays is a London-headquartered global bank contributing financial markets, project finance and infrastructure expertise to the consortium. Group chief executive CS Venkatakrishnan said the bank looks forward to sharing its sector perspective with fusion groups as the consortium builds momentum behind the UK's fusion ecosystem.

Type One Energy is a Tennessee-based fusion technology developer building stellarator fusion power systems, and one of the consortium's three founding members alongside Tokamak Energy and AECOM. Established in May 2026, the consortium aims to develop the UK's fusion value chain and attract the investment needed to deliver a commercial plant. Chief executive Chris Mowry said the group brings together technology, engineering and project delivery capabilities to accelerate a private sector-led pathway to commercialisation.

Barclays and the consortium companies are also members of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, founded by King Charles III, and the group describes its work as complementary to the UK government's fusion strategy and the STEP programme.
